The Women Behind the Boutique
A&A Mexican Boutique was founded by Norma Angelica Alvarez and Angelica Alvarez. For 20 years, Norma dedicated herself to raising her three children. When they grew up and found their own paths, she finally had the space to pursue something she had always dreamed of. Together with Angelica, she opened a shop that reflects what she is most passionate about: her culture.
The two women reconnected over coffee and discovered a shared vision -- a boutique that would celebrate authentic Mexican artistry rather than the mass-produced imitations that flood so many markets. They wanted every piece to be real. Real embroidery. Real leather. Real craftsmanship.
Where the Pieces Come From
Every item at A&A Mexican Boutique tells a story. The embroidered blouses are hand-stitched using traditional fabrics like manta, a 100% natural, unbleached cotton fabric that artisan communities across Mexico have worked with for generations. Leather purses and handmade shoes are sourced directly from Mexico, ensuring authenticity in every detail. Some accessories are even handmade by Norma and Angelica themselves.
The pieces come primarily from three of Mexico's most celebrated artisan regions: Oaxaca, home to the iconic San Antonino embroidery style known for its dense floral patterns; Puebla, celebrated for delicate cross-stitch and drawn-thread work; and Chiapas, where indigenous Mayan textile traditions produce some of the most culturally significant woven and embroidered garments in the world.
A Mission Bigger Than Fashion
Norma and Angelica are quick to say that A&A Mexican Boutique is about more than selling beautiful clothes. It is about making visible the work that so often goes unseen.
The artisans who create these pieces -- mostly women, many of them working from home in small villages -- pour tremendous skill and time into every garment. A single embroidered dress can take days or weeks to complete. Without shops like A&A Mexican Boutique bringing that work to American consumers, that labor might go unrecognized and underpaid.
The boutique also serves a cultural mission: to help younger generations reconnect with traditions they may have grown up seeing in their mothers and grandmothers, but have started to lose touch with. As Angelica explains, the goal is to pass it down instead of letting it be forgotten.
